Announcing Our New Executive Director

Danielle Guindo

The Board of Directors of Read Alliance is pleased to announce that Danielle Guindo will join the organization as its Executive Director as of July 11, 2018. Ms. Guindo brings with her almost twenty years of non‐profit experience, working most recently as Chief Program Officer at the YWCA Brooklyn, which promotes eliminating racism and empowering women.  

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of Read Alliance, we are delighted to welcome Danielle as the organization’s new Executive Director,” stated Board Co-Chairs Tom Regan and Mark Hemenetz. “We are confident Danielle will be an impactful leader of Read Alliance and a passionate advocate of literacy for our K-2 students as well as a strong supporter of our teen tutors. Danielle’s extensive experience in the non‐profit sector, coupled with her warm and vibrant personality, will serve the organization well as she leads us into a new chapter of growth and continued success.”

Ms. Guindo has focused much of her career on programs and she has a diverse, successful background in managing education-based initiatives for children from infancy through college. She has experience leveraging private and public support to elevate the quality and efficacy of programs. Prior to working at YWCA Brooklyn, Ms. Guindo served as Vice President for Programs and Policy at The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc. where she was responsible for expanding and implementing youth programs and education initiatives.  Ms. Guindo has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland and a Master in Social Work from Fordham University.

As Executive Director, Ms. Guindo will manage Read Alliance’s collaborations with schools throughout the five boroughs of New York City that benefit more than 1,500 children annually. Ms. Guindo will also spearhead a multitude of meaningful new organizational initiatives designed to build upon Read Alliance’s strong record of enriching the lives of its young students. Of her new role, Ms. Guindo states, “I am truly honored and excited to join Read Alliance, an organization that impacts the lives of children on many levels. I look forward to working with the Board, staff, partners, schools and families to increase access to our transformative programming, to build on this organization’s strong history and advance towards its exciting future. “

Ms. Guindo will become the fourth Executive Director of Read Alliance in the organization’s 18-year history. Kelley Perkins who spent the last fourteen years at Read Alliance and the last six as Executive Director said, “It has been my honor and pleasure to serve this organization and the thousands of children and teens who have benefitted from our work.  We are poised to expand our impact, and Danielle is the right leader for Read Alliance at the right time.  I look forward to seeing what great things she does along with a dedicated board and staff.”
