Why Expansion Matters
National reading scores continue to decline, and the need for effective early literacy intervention has never been greater. Read Alliance addresses this challenge through our dual-impact model:
- Strengthening foundational reading skills for young students through individualized, one-to-one tutoring
- Providing paid, skill-building employment for Teen Leaders
As we grow, we remain committed to the integrity of the READ model and the communities we serve.
Our Strategic Approach
Expansion isn’t just about adding new sites—it’s about intentional growth. We evaluate new markets using three key criteria:
- READ is needed (high literacy gaps)
- Funding is available
- A local champion exists to foster community relationships
This ensures that every new site is positioned for success and sustainability.
Where We’re Growing
For the 2025–26 school year, we’re piloting programs in:
- Buffalo, NY – Only 25% of students read at grade level; 84% are economically disadvantaged.
- Easton, MD – 76% of elementary students are economically disadvantaged; only 30% read at grade level.
We’re also deepening partnerships in Berks County, PA, Southeast Delco, PA, and Rochester, NY, where local leaders and organizations are helping us scale impact.

- Program Fidelity: Our Partnership Agreement and technical assistance framework guarantee quality and consistency.
- Teen Leader Development: Hybrid training models and workforce partnerships empower teens as educators and leaders.
